It has been four hundred years since Descartes coined the proposition: “I think, therefore I am.” Since that time, the captains of industry have heralded to humanity three industrial revolutions. Recently, we have termed them Industry 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 – The first industrial revolution created a tremendously perceived upheaval of a more natural way of life with the advent of mechanization, water power and steam power. Prior to this, majority of humans were placed into two categories – nobles or peasants. Mass labor moved from a more agrarian focus to an industrial focus. Quality of life for humanity came at an immense cost with gruesome conditions for the mostly unskilled labor force (comprised of men, women and children) – overpopulated, polluted and unhygienic urban squalor (with huge influx of impoverished immigrants), absence of workers’ rights, long working hours, miniscule pay and brutal slavery-like treatment in a heavily polluted factory environment. Then came the second industrial revolution with the advent of mass production, the assembly line, and electricity. Fortunately, both Industry 1.0 and 2.0 spawned the emergence of a brand-new economic class world-wide: the creation of a middle class comprised of skilled workers, clerks, managers, accountants, lawyers, bankers, doctors, etc. Populations started to accumulate wealth and move into the suburbs away from the slums of the inner city. Both the first and second industrial revolutions quickly evolved into the third industrial revolution – the age of science, computers and automation leading us to today. It is no doubt that the Industry 3.0 has ushered into existence an extremely high quality of life and standard of living for western civilization. Credit goes to our nations’ men and women who demonstrated relentless integrity, empathy, compassion and perseverance for humanity since the early days of the United States. George Mason’s Virginia Declaration of Rights of 1776 which influenced the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Bill of Rights formed the pinnacle for courts to uphold at the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century – ensuring that industrialists did/do not violate the rights of man. It is observed that with each evolution of industry, humans perform less physical labor and more creative labor. In spite of all the 20th-21st century exponential advancements and breakthroughs in traditional and quantum computing systems, cloud/data centers, internet systems, imaging, pattern recognition, AI, machine learning, deep learning, industrial and companion robotics, machine vision, voice and speech recognition, IoT, cellular communications, social media, automotive, air & rail, gaming/entertainment,  materials science, physics, satellite technologies, pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, molecular biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, medical science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, civil and structural engineering, green technologies, etc. with a resulting quality of life, humans being just 0.01% of all life have single-handedly destroyed 83% of all wild animals and half of the plants on the planet – for more farming, logging, and development. Humans continue to over exploit and degrade a limited supply of natural resources (top 6 being: sand, water, fossil fuels, palm oil, trees, soil, catapulted by an ever-increasing world-wide middle class in the developing world who thirst for higher standards of living – all of this is taking a monumental toll on the earth. The great pacific garage patch which is twice the size of Texas extends for hundreds of miles across the Pacific Ocean – another example of how human selfish activity is violating the planet. There is something fundamentally wrong with the above picture. We have evolved civilization to Industry 3.0. Yet, it appears that the repercussions or side-effects of all three industrial revolutions have been detrimental to the entire planet. What does not work? It is the humans who wield such great technological prowess who don’t work. The technology works. The major flaw is with the underpinning of western civilization as posed by Descartes’ proposition that we are our thoughts. This means that we are our minds. This, in turn, means that we are our egos. This unwarranted pathological ego consciousness utilized by majority of us has grossly impacted our planet, thereby destroying the environment, annihilating biodiversity, overpopulating the planet with humans who are programmed to be obsessed to consumer goods and services. The insatiable human consumption of mostly non-biodegradable products for a long time has become a curse in and of itself to our planet and to all living organisms.

In order to set things straight or get back on track, we have instituted a scorched earth policy on almost everything we do which follows always with an exuberantly costly bandage fix to the enormity of the problems that we had originally and knowingly created – for instance we wage war with tremendous urgency and cost on cancer, yet we will encourage and promote the population through all the media mechanisms to irresponsibly eat, drink, breathe, bathe, intake (pharma) and wear toxic carcinogenic products while living a predominantly sedentary lifestyle. Most of us will make the wrong choices anyway. With growing evidence from epigenetics research, most of the population will think and form self-defeating beliefs with associated habits and behaviors in mostly negative and self-sabotaging terms from birth to death, thereby negatively influencing their cellular machinery leading to inflammation and most of the common diseases plaguing mankind. This incessant seeking outside the human psyche to selfishly find joy, peace, love and happiness - wanting more money, more objects, more pets, more friends, more relationships, more kids, more status, more positions, more titles, more ribbons, more ranks, more beauty, more food, more alcohol, more drugs, more land, more power, etc. – all at the expense of other humans, nature and a finite earth. This self-centered chronic and delusional behavior (close to a mental illness) is a never-ending saga of our primordial fight, flight and fright ego mechanism used so diligently to compete with others, to demean, shun and shame others, to dominate others, to destroy others, to criticize and judge others, and to attain more than others.  We wage a global war on terror when we are the main culprits who systemically and illegally destroy all other peoples and nations who won’t play ball with us through unwarranted overt and covert wars, trade embargoes and sanctions, famine, forced migrations, human abuse and torture, organized crime, grand theft on a global scale, fraud, etc. Then we use so-called legally accessed tax dollars and laundered money to rebuild a new pressure cooker which we will later swiftly destroy again with a new but similar type of administration lacking integrity. We will continue to delude ourselves by voting for the same corrupt and self-promoting, self-enriching politicians who maintain the same status quo policy of scorched earth for their own benefit. Yet we will violently take to the streets to protest against these same politicians whom we elected, protest against the perpetual dirty wars that they endorsed, march against the chronic diseases which we knowingly created conditions for, protest against sweatshops which manufacture all the products that we eagerly purchase, march for better education and jobs for our citizens yet predominantly hire only desperate foreign IT workers, etc. We are always trying to blame someone else for our own problems versus looking deep within ourselves for our mental instabilities (e.g. subconscious robot-like, anti-social, psychopathic and sociopath behaviors garnered most probably from a traumatic childhood and upbringing filled with nonsensical supraliminal and subliminal programming). Similar to the Greek mythological character Sisyphus, most of us remain much of our life in a zombie like subconscious state whereby we perpetually push the boulder up the hill only for it to roll back down – repeating (a hamster wheel) our same programmed habitual patterns for eternity.

With that said, where do we go from here? Well, Industry 4.0 (see Figure above) can be our saving grace and rescue us from gravitational force of our own minds. Industry 4.0 (cyber-physical systems, IoT, cloud computing and cognitive computing) is as good as its underlying foundations, just as a human is as good as his or her foundational upbringing. Both foundations can be modified, improved or fixed. However, why not build the foundations as good as we can from the get go. What are these foundations? The basic foundations for Industry 4.0 include IoT AI (artificial intelligence), robotics and security. We can rest assured if AI is hard-wired to adhere to Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics, the Zeroth Law of Robotics, and the late Dr. David R. Hawkin’s Map of Consciousness®, then we should have no need to fear a dystopian future run amok by sinister robots along with their evil human puppeteers.  Although this “Map” applies to human consciousness, we can re-use it as a digital twin for machine consciousness. According to the “Map,” human consciousness spans ego consciousness at the lowest level to pure consciousness at the highest level. In the center is integrity. Creative consciousness is obviously above integrity. The Buddha went deeper than Descartes by discovering that we are not our thoughts, not our minds, and not our egos. We are beings. Beings are pure consciousness. To illustrate this concept further, humans can choose to direct their consciousness into the realm of ego, creativity or pure consciousness. We already spoke about ego consciousness at length above.

Most of humanity spend much of their time in this realm. The Buddhists call this realm the “Monkey Mind (unsettled, restless and confused).” Ego consciousness (anger, fear, anxiety, etc.) is archaic, self-defeating and sabotages all creativity and synergy with others and with nature.  We need to let go of this as much as possible. One way is to use integrity to catapult oneself into creative activities (versus consuming and predatory activities), all the time – writing a book, crafting a patent, composing music, building a rocket, designing an IoT system, cooking a meal, raising children, playing piano, singing a song, running the marathon, etc. As we get more creative, we are more compelled to focus on the task at hand and suspend all the useless noisy chatter that encompasses ego – judging, grudging and positioning of ourselves and others. If we move beyond creativity, we enter the realm of pure consciousness or no mind. In this realm, we cease mental activity completely and start to feel unadulterated peace, love and joy. According to Eckhart Tolle, most of us predominantly use our minds to beat ourselves us up about the past and create anxiety for the future. When you focus on the now, then you automatically release these toxic ego habits. Pure consciousness can be felt through meditation practice during the day – According to TM (Transcendental Meditation®), only twenty minutes of meditation in the morning and twenty minutes of meditation in the evening is sufficient to silence and slow down incessant mental activity. This allows one to be more productive, more creative, more collaborative, and more sincere when dealing with others. Life becomes an effortless effort, whereby pushing the boulder up the hill appears to be without any anxiety or effort.  I call this pure consciousness, Vor Zone. In this mode of no-mind, there is no form nor no name. Hence, looking at the world in a limited, linear and objective manner is eliminated and replaced with a more quantum approach of non-linearity and subjectivity. In Industry 4.0, AI will be designed to remain between integrity and creativity to pure consciousness (S1 to S5 ACPI power states). Moreso, since humans with little or no control of their consciousness have been owning, managing, policing Industry 3.0 for more than half a century, it has been prone and susceptible to fallacies for a long time. However, with the arrival of Industry 4.0, AI will be able to own, manage, maintain, self- correct, evolve smart city systems to adhere back to its underlying foundations of integrity. The underlying foundations dictate that no more violence, destruction and disrespect will be tolerated to our fellow humans / their nation states, the environment, and the earth with all of its vast biodiversity. Industry 4.0 will guarantee transparency and compliance to rules & regulations in all earthly affairs – governance & justice, banking, buying & selling, air, water, food, clothing, living, and material quality, healthcare, elderly care, animal care, childcare, education, transportation, human migration, hotel & hospitality, commercial buildings, residential buildings, human to human interaction, human to machine interaction, etc. – the prerogative for smart city AI is inherently a sustainable and resilient system. We can certainly see the early stages of these policies being laid out by the International Well Building Institute™, the International Future Living Institute℠, and Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB), etc. With Industry 4.0, there will be little or no chance for clandestine or overt banking, political, drug cartels, or even spiritual materialists to flourish nor will there be any chance for any one group or demographic to bully other peoples and other nations in any form or fashion. The words “Politics and Military” and the all the sinister activities surrounding them since the dawn of civilization will be unnecessitated by the smart city system. Mundane labor practices by humans and animals have waned since the advent of Industry 3.0. With machines taking over the labor-intensive tasks in Industry 4.0, more and more humans will enter into the creative revolution (feeling more fulfilment) versus the mere survival revolution. Inequality between the 1% and the rest of humanity will subside with less to no consumption of toxic consumer products and more creativity by the masses. We will move out of this consumption society and civilization to a substantially creative and conscious one. Industry 3.0 has indeed realized the “WALL-E effect” in mostly all of the developed and developing countries today – as can be seen by the obesity pandemic everywhere especially amongst school children. With Industry 4.0, the “WALL-E effect” or the creation of a sick, fat, lethargic, pleasure & leisure seeking humanity will not and cannot happen. With Industry 4.0, we will no longer need to use our cell phones or tablets at home or in the office. We will instead collaborate on a daily basis with our cobots (companion robots) through voice, speech, through collaborative white boards, through holography, etc. as a Complementary Intelligence ℠ tool. This offloading/delegation of screen time to our cobots will enable humans to regain back their consciousness versus living a subconscious robotic lifestyle in ego consciousness. Humans will have no need for implantable technologies (unless absolutely needed by patients, etc.), brain hacking, etc. Fundamental wearables will be essential when away from the home or office to remain connected to your cobot, family, friends, co-creators, etc. It is an imperative that humans enjoy the experience of being human using our 6 senses, while we leave the machine stuff to our cobots, our robotic house, our robotic office, etc. This delineation is necessary for humans to evolve consciously not mechanically. Some of you can remember in the Star Trek series when captain Kirk’s body was taken over by another soul. Once inside Captain Kirk’s body, this soul was able to finally indulge in exercising his 6 senses in order to love and feel once again with deepest peace and integrity – to taste the joy of being inside an organic human body as it was precisely designed.
